Week 1- Understanding Common Core for ELA & Literacy
The Common Core State Standards were released in June 2010,
it is a learning standard for all students. This was created when they realized
that in each state the standards were very different. Students also could have been either falling behind
in one state and preforming very well in a different state. These students were
not being well prepared for college and to succeed outside the classroom. The Common Core is broken into 4 categories;
reading, writing, speaking & listening, and language. The Standards gives
teachers a goal and outline of what to work with, it helps them stay focused
and on track to what they are teaching. After watching this video, I now have a
better understanding of how important it is to implement the Common Core State
Standards in the classroom, it can sometimes be a challenge for the teacher, however
it helps the student in college and outside the classroom.
